Way back in January of 1869, John T. Hoffman was sworn in as the Governor of New York.  Since the Civil War, he is the only person to be elected as Mayor of NYC…and then get elected to another office after leaving that job.  (Arthur L. Kline did get elected to one term in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1921, after serving as Mayor, but was merely became “Acting Mayor” after the death of Mayor William Gaynor.  He was not elected as the Mayor.)…..Otherwise, no other person has been elected to ANY other office after serving as Mayor of the Big Apple……It sure doesn’t look like Mayor Eric Adams will change this 155-year trend……..…We’re not sure why we find this fact so strange, but we just do.  It sure looks like it’s a dead-end job (although Michael Bloomberg seems to have done okay since leaving office).
